65th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands

A Book Launch
By
THE CONSUL GENERAL OF THE KINGDOM OF THE NETHERLANDS
Chestnut Conference Centre
TORONTO

Last Saturday WO 2 Jackson and LCol Gilbank attended a presentation in Toronto that was held to launch a second edition of a special book of remembrance for the Dutch people who lived through the Second World War. The book contained the thoughts and memories of those who survived the occupation of The Netherlands during the War and it was dedicated to the children and grand children of the Dutch and Indonesian people who came to Canada to finally live in freedom. The book launch was also timed to coincide with the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands by Canada.

The conference and ceremony was an emotional and memorable day for all the participants as there were not only presentations by members of the Dutch government but there were several emotional speeches by those who were in the Netherlands during the war either as civilians or as Canadian soldiers. Fortunately WO Jackson had a chance to meet several of these individuals after the luncheon. One of these is a well known Dutch Canadian paratrooper Jan De Vries. The second was Emmy Van Taack who during the war years was a member of the Dutch Underground. There were also several other speakers one of which was Capt. Scot-Brown a Canadian soldier who provided the emotional high light of the presentation when he asked all those in attendance who had been in the Netherlands during the war to stand up. Almost everyone in the conference hall stood up.

Basic Training Graduation Parade
Canadian Forces Base
St. Jean Quebec

In the photo you can see two members of the graduating class at CFB St. Jean who are obviously Air Force. The one on the left just happens to be Warrant Officer First Class Michelle Jubenville, a former Squadron Warrant Officer, who is now moving on to an on the job training posting as an air traffic controller in North Bay.

Roller Skating

Last Monday evening there was no regular parade due to the Family Day Holiday. You can see from the photos that instead of a formal parade the night was spent at the Coachlite Roller Skating Rink. Obviously it was a lot more fun than being stuck in a classroom.

Aviation Photo of the Week

This is not some new way of doing aircraft maintenance but it is result of a roof collapse that was caused by too much snow. The roof landed on the tails of these executive aircraft at the Washington Dulles International Airport leaving them at this rather interesting angle.
