Year End Trip

Our Year-End Trip this year is going to be to Washington D.C.  We will be leaving at 0700 on Thursday May 18th and returning in the of Monday May 22nd.  We have already filled over 2/3 of the available seats. Tomorrow night Monday May 8th will be the final opportunity for parents to come in to the hall and fill out the paperwork and also pay for their cadet to attend the trip.  We have to ensure that all of the required paperwork is done properly so the deadline of tomorrow will not be extended.  If you have already paid but did not have a copy of the Birth Certificate or Passport with you, please make sure that a copy is brought to either the arena by your cadet or to the Squadron Headquarters tomorrow night.  We would ask that you do not show up before 1900 hours tomorrow and not after 2100 hours as the staff have to have the opportunity to set up at the beginning and to tear down and still make it to the final parade at the end of the night.  Cadets who do not have a Squadron issued ID card need to see 2Lt Di Loreto after closing parade to get their picture taken for a new card.  If you have lost your card, there is a $2.00 fee to replace it.

Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award

Congratulations to former Warrant Officer Adam Boyden who received his Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award on Saturday during a ceremony held at the Toronto Police College.  He was presented the award by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honorable Elizabeth Dowdeswell.  A lot of hard work went into this achievement.  For those who have registered in the Awards Program, please remember that you need to submit your $15.00 payment to 2Lt Di Loreto before the registration can be processed.

Marksmanship Team Off to National Competition

clip_image007

Our marksmanship Team departed this morning for Gimli Manitoba to participate in the Cadet National Marksmanship Competition.  This is the final step in a journey that started in September and has seem them compete against other Squadron members to earn a place on the team and then against cadets from all three elements at the local level to earn a berth at the provincial competition.  We wish them luck in all of their competitions this week.

Year End Dance

Our final cadet dance of this training year will be held this coming Friday May 12th at the 420 Wing.  We will once again be serving pizza and the canteen will be there with all the regular treats.  Doors will open at 1900 and the last song will end at 2359.  Admission for this dance is free to cadets and $2.00 for non squadron members.

Thoughts from the Elliptical

A lot of stuff happening this weekend.  Congratulations Adam (Spam) Boyden on your Silver Duke of Ed award.  I know that you worked very hard on that.

I messed up last week by not mentioning the Marksmanship Team heading off to Gimli this week, sorry about that team, it certainly isn’t because I wasn’t thinking of the great achievement you have done by getting there with the exact same team twice in a row.  I am extremely proud of each and every one of you.  I would also like to point out that this is Warrant Officer Carson’s third year in a row competing at the national level competition.  BZ to all involved.

I had the opportunity to head up to Kendal yesterday and visit Dare 2 Dream Honey for their grand opening open house.  Steve Lawrence used to be a CI with the Squadron and his two sons Tyler and Nick both went through the Squadron as cadets.  I have mentioned Steve before in thanking him for allowing our cadets to use his property for their Duke of Edinburgh Silver expedition, I am just very impressed with the operation that he has set up with his family and the giving back to the community that he does. (The honey and maple syrup they produce is also awesome).  Congratulations Steve and family on this milestone.

As the picture above shows, I was able to announce the top earners on last weekend’s tagging.  I really didn’t have time at closing to tell everyone how proud I was of the effort they put out to make the tagging weekend such a success.  The weather wasn’t great, but the cadets sure didn’t give up.  Thank you from our sponsors as well.

That’s all for now.
