 Cadets of the Week

 Recruit Gradation Parade

This past Monday the Squadron welcomed some 50 new cadets to the Squadron. The new cadets had just completed an eight week course where they learned the basic cadet skills and they received an introduction to the cadet program.  This is an important evening for the cadets and the Squadron and there were several special guests in attendance. We not only had our chairman Mr. Dave Brooks from the Rotary Club of Oshawa attending but also Col. Ted Taylor from the Air Cadet League of Canada. Another special guest was Capt. Lisa Millar from the Canadian Forces Detachment at CFB Trenton.

The reviewing officer for the evening was Col. Bob Chapman  who is better known in the city as a  member of  the Oshawa city council. However he was a former RSM and Commanding Officer of the Ontario Regiment as well as a Brigade Commander in the Canadian Army. All of this service was in addition to over 30 years service with the Durham Regional Police Service. This year for the first time ever our guest led the cadets as they recited the  cadet oath to confirm their enrolment in the Canadian Cadet Program. Following the ceremony he along with our guests, the SWO and the Commanding officer personally welcomed the new cadets as members of 151 Squadron

At the parade each of the cadets were presented with a graduation certificate and in addition the top cadet on the course was presented with a special certificate and a gift.

Cadet  Recruit  and Parent Information Meeting

Remember on Monday evening there will be a parent and new recruit information meeting at 7:30 at Rotary Hall 254 Centre Street.

If you know of someone who wishes to become a cadet this may be the last chance to join the Squadron until next September.

 Lottery  Tickets

Last week 24 lottery ticket books were returned but there are still more to come back. If you are one of those cadets do not forget to get the balance back on Monday.

 Promotion

This week we are pleased to announce that 2Lt. Sarah Mastroianni has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant effective this week. She is shown here with our reviewing officer Col. Chapman.

Tri Service Cadet Dance

Friday evening Lviv Ukrainian Hall rocked and the floor vibrated to the dancing feet of some 320 cadets who attended 151 Squadron’s annual Tri Service Cadet Dance. All of the cadets who had come from seven different cadet corps in Durham Region enjoyed a full course roast beef dinner that was served by the Squadron staff. The dinner was followed by a night of dancing to all of the cadet’s favourite songs and dances. In fact it was one non stop energetic party. To prove the point we have included just one photo here in the newsletter however we have on the Squadron’s web site a Power Point Presentation the contains 30 more photos. Take a look and you will rather quickly see that it was a very lively and memorable evening.

A dance such as this just does not happen without the support and hard work of almost 20 members of the Squadron staff. One of those staff members  C/V Jane Jubenville  deserves a special vote of thanks for the several months of work that she put into organizing and setting up this very successful activity. Thanks Jane for a job well done!!

Order Forms – Poinsettia Fund Raiser

Two weeks ago we advertized a fund raising program to sell Poinsettias to cadet families and friends. Our readers should know that in just the past two weeks we have managed to sell no less than $4100 worth of flowers. The good news is that apparently we still have one more night to accept orders. So if you would still like to get an order in make sure that you get to the school tomorrow evening.

 Aviation Photo of The Week

Most everyone has heard of the Red Bull air races and other sporting events that are sponsored by the Red Bull organization. Not everyone may know that if you could take about 10 minute drive from downtown Salzburg Austria to the local airport you would find a unique collection of Red Bull aircraft, helicopters and race cars.

If you would like to have a look at this unique collection just click on the photo below.
