FOOD DRIVE FOR OSHAWA

Just a reminder that we will be collecting non-perishable food for the Simcoe Hall Settlement House. This will be a onetime collection tomorrow night Monday December 17th. This will happen at the Coach Lite Roller rink where the squadron will be roller-skating. This will be a flight competition with the flight donating the most articles receiving a pizza party in January.

Major Puglisevich a former commanding officer dropped in this past Monday to present our Squadron Warrant Officer with his four year cadet service medal.

Unfortunately there is an upper age limit in the cadet organization and this past week Warrant Officer McIntosh turned nineteen and graduated from the cadet program.
It is the squadron’s tradition that when a warrant officer graduates from the cadet program the Squadron presents him or her with an engraved mug. He is shown here with special guest Maj. Puglisevich, Capt. Weigel and the Squadron’s senior cadets. In the photo below the outgoing Warrant Officer is shown congratulating Warrant Officer T. Smith on his promotion and appointment as The Squadron Warrant Officer.

The Christmas Poinsettia Fund Raising Program

This year’s Poinsettia fund raising program was again a very successful effort thanks to Leslie Hurley a cadet mother who managed the program.
The program was completed this past Monday and we would like to thank Leslie for her hard work and dedication in making this a very successful Christmas project.

Thoughts From the Treadmill

Another week and more things to talk about.
Pictured is the new display board that is mounted on the parade square. This is a display of former squadron members who have gone on to serve in the military. As you can see, there are only nine photos on the board so far, this number will grow as we receive more photos from our alumni. If you know of any squadron alumni who have gone on to serve, please have them send me a photo of them in their military uniform. Special thanks to Captain Weigel for his fine craftsmanship on this project.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Warrant Officer Robert McIntosh for the service he has provided the Squadron and wish him well on all his future endeavours.
Also my sincere congratulations to Warrant Officer Trevor Smith on his promotion and appointment to Squadron Warrant Officer.
As this will be the last issue of the newsletter this year, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.

This short video shows a World War 1-era Sopwith Camel flying in formation with a World War 2-era Supermarine Spitfire Mk. XVI , only twenty years separate these two designs. This clip was shot just prior to the Warbirds Over Wanaka 2004 airshow at Wanaka in New Zealand
Two historic fighters were flown side by side to showcase the advance in technology in only 20 years!
The Sopwith Camel and the Supermarine Spitfire are icons of their respective eras, both efficient designs that were very effective.
The Sopwith Camel was first flown in 1916 and the Supermarine Spitfire made its maiden flight March 6, 1936.
When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been,
and there you will always want to be.
